NA adopts resolution seeking speedy trial of May 9 rioters under military law,The National Assembly (NA) has unanimously approved a resolution on Monday, urging a prompt trial of all individuals, including Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who were involved in the destructive events on May 9.

The resolution emphasises the application of the Pakistan Army Act of 1952 to ensure swift justice for those responsible and calls for immediate action against both the perpetrators and instigators of the violent acts in accordance with the law and the Constitution.

The resolution was proposed by Defense Minister Khawaja Asif during the parliamentary session. While not explicitly mentioning the PTI party or its chairman, the resolution expressed deep concern over a political party’s actions on May 9, which violated the law and constitution by launching an attack on military installations.

According to the resolution, these incidents caused significant and irreversible damage to both the state and its institutions. Furthermore, it emphasized that the agenda of this particular party appears to be driven by animosity towards Pakistan.

The resolution firmly rejected any claims of human rights violations during the handling of the individuals responsible for the May 9 events, dismissing such allegations as unfounded propaganda.

It stressed that individuals involved in violent acts against military installations must be promptly tried and sentenced under the Army Act of 1952. Similar to other countries, where the military holds jurisdiction over such cases, the resolution argued that the military should exercise its authority accordingly.

During his address, Minister Asif clarified that the government had not introduced any new legislation specifically in response to the May 9 events. He highlighted that the armed forces are engaged in a constant battle to defend the nation, with their personnel sacrificing their lives for the security of Pakistan.

Asif further condemned the attacks on military installations, emphasizing that they were planned to undermine the sacrifices of martyrs, an act that cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.

Lastly, the senior PML-N leader expressed concerns about the PTI party, accusing it of attacking the integrity and sovereignty of Pakistan.
