Babar leads ICC WTC ranking, leaves Kohli, Smith behind,Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, has achieved an impressive fourth position in the recently concluded World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-2023, surpassing India’s Virat Kohli and Australia’s Steve Smith. Azam’s outstanding average of 69.10 in 20 innings, including eight fifties and four centuries, places him at the top of the batting chart.

Steve Smith, the victorious player of the WTC 21-23, secures the second-best average of 55.40 in 30 innings, featuring six fifties and four centuries. Meanwhile, England’s Joe Root stands third with an average of 54.20 in 34 innings, marked by eight fifties and six centuries.

Angelo Mathews from Sri Lanka boasts an average of 48.40, contributing two fifties and two centuries in 16 innings. On the other hand, Virat Kohli, the Indian cricketer, has the lowest average among the top five batsmen, scoring at 34.65 per match with three fifties and a century.

In the WTC final, held on Sunday (June 11), Australia emerged victorious, defeating India by a comfortable margin of 209 runs. India, chasing a target of 444 runs, was bowled out for 234 runs in their second innings on the fifth day of the match.

Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden, in a TV conversation before the WTC final between India and Australia at The Oval, hailed Babar Azam as one of the modern-day greats. Hayden acknowledged the importance of runs on the board in crucial games and praised Steve Smith, Virat Kohli, and Babar Azam as exceptional talents, considering them once-in-a-lifetime cricketers of this generation.

It is worth mentioning that Hayden has served as Pakistan’s batting mentor twice during the T20 World Cups. He held the position in 2021 when Pakistan played the semi-final against Australia, and in 2022 during the final against England. Throughout his tenure, Hayden consistently lauded Babar Azam for his batting prowess and skills.
